R\u00e9gis Gon\u00e7alves (born in Minas Gerais, Brazil) is an interdisciplinary artist, researcher and educator who lives and works in the Netherlands. His perspective has been shaped by personal experience and by living and working in different countries and cultures. Through painting, installation, textile works and other media, R\u00e9gis explores connections between past and present and the dynamics that shape human relationships.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

His practice combines storytelling with artistic, cultural and historical research. The work often begins with autobiographical experiences and opens up broader questions about identity, migration, memory, colonial history, spirituality and connections to the earth. R\u00e9gis questions simplified and one-sided narratives and pays particular attention to histories and experiences that have often been overlooked or excluded, including those of queer people, enslaved people and other marginalised groups.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Materials form an important part of his practice. R\u00e9gis often works with natural pigments and reused textiles. These choices reflect his interest in ecology, sustainability and social responsibility.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

R\u00e9gis studied Fine Arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and later obtained a master\u2019s degree in Artistic Research from the University of Amsterdam. His work has been exhibited in the Netherlands, Brazil, Ghana, Portugal and the United Arab Emirates. It is also held in various collections, including those of the Brazilian Embassy, the Amsterdam District Court and several hospitals.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Alongside his artistic practice, R\u00e9gis teaches and leads art workshops. His teaching draws on his experience with different techniques, materials and forms of research. He helps participants develop their own visual language and give form to their ideas, experiences and stories, while leaving room for experimentation and individual approaches.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>[vc_empty_space height=”30px” el_class=”hide-on-mobile”]<\/div>
