Workshop

Silent witnesses

Painting is an art form in which the human presence is usually central. Most often this is shown literally, as a portrait or as a figure within the scene. A painter seeks to capture the qualities and behaviour of the subject, allowing the work to come alive and tell a story.

In architecture, the human presence is also central. Architects use layouts and objects to guide people through a space or invite them to stay. They make deliberate choices to influence human behaviour and well-being. Because architecture often outlasts a specific moment or event, it can tell a story even in the absence of people.

In this workshop you will use a self-made scale model to tell a story in which the human presence is central, without depicting people directly. After choosing a domestic or interior space, you will first build a simple model. The model allows you to experiment and also serves as a point of reference while drawing or painting.

The aim is to create a triptych consisting of a frontal view and two side views. You are free to choose a classical approach, such as a still life, or a more experimental one. This makes the workshop suitable for both beginning and more experienced painters.
